Pumpkinvine Nature Trail
The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail is a 16.5 mile linear park and greenway, under development, connecting Goshen, Middlebury and Shipshewana. The trail is mostly on the former Pumpkinvine railroad corridor connecting the three towns. The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail connects to the Maple City Greenway, which is over 25 miles of trails linking neighborhoods, schools, parks and businesses in Goshen.
The Maple City Greenway is also linked to the MapleHeart Trail that runs 4.8 miles to Elkhart adjacent to County Road 45. The entire distance from Elkhart to Shipshewana on the trails is 25 miles. Two sections totalling 2.25 miles are on country roads.
The trails provide joggers, bicyclists, walkers and skaters with a quiet place for healty exercise and enjoyment of nature away from motorized traffic. The trails pass alternately through wooded and open areas. A project is in progress to enhance the open areas with native grasses and flowers.
